About the Position: The M&E Officer will work closely with the Technical Assistant and Project Officer to plan, implement, and report on all monitoring and evaluation activities. The role involves regular fieldwork in rural areas and use of digital data collection tools. |
Duties and Responsibilities: In this capacity, the M&E Officer will be responsible for: Planning and coordinating monitoring activities, including project surveys, tests, trainings, and other field activities in collaboration with field teams. Preparing and supervising the implementation of surveys (baseline, endline, Tree counting surveys, etc.). Managing, supervising, and training temporary survey staff and enumerators. Designing relevant indicators and monitoring tools aligned with program objectives. Designing, testing, and validating survey questionnaires based on project indicators and field context. Ensuring data quality through continuous checks, data cleaning protocols, and cross-validation. Supporting data analysis and interpretation, and presenting findings to the project team. Coordinating with the Technical Assistant to contribute M&E data to monthly and quarterly reports. Participating in strategic planning meetings, including preparation of the annual work plan. Using digital data collection tools (e.g., KoboToolbox, ODK) to deploy and supervise data collection.

PROFILEStrong command of Microsoft Excel, including formulas, data validation, and data organization. Proven experience with digital data collection tools such as KoboToolbox, ODK, or similar platforms. Demonstrated ability to design and implement surveys, including sampling strategies, questionnaire design, and enumerator supervision. Experience in data cleaning, analysis, and presenting findings in a clear and actionable format. Strong communication skills with the ability to present data clearly and interact effectively with field teams and local stakeholders. Fluency in Chichewa and English (written and spoken) is required. High level of integrity, honesty, and teamwork, with the ability to collaborate with field teams and local communities. Passion for fieldwork and ability to adapt to rural working environments. Team player, quick learner, with a strong interest in agriculture and good interpersonal skills.

Qualifications and Experience: Bachelor’s degree in Statistics, Monitoring and Evaluation, Agricultural Sciences, Development Studies, or a related field. Minimum of five (5) years’ experience in Monitoring and Evaluation or research. Experience working on agriculture or rural development projects.
