Carpenter (Grade UHL10)

Key Responsibilities:

  • Construct, install, repair, and maintain wooden structures, furniture, doors, windows, partitions, ceilings, and cabinetry.
  • Perform routine inspections of guest rooms, public areas, kitchens, and staff facilities to identify carpentry-related defects.
  • Repair and maintain wooden fixtures such as wardrobes, beds, tables, skirting boards, cupboards, and shelving.
  • Install and repair locks, door closers, hinges, handles, and related hardware.
  • Support refurbishment projects by fabricating and fitting custom joinery items.
  • Assist with minor masonry, drywall repairs, and finishing work when required.
  • Prepare estimates for materials, tools, and timelines for carpentry tasks.
  • Ensure safe operation of carpentry power tools, saws, planers, sanders, and joinery machines.
  • Collaborate with painters, welders, electricians, plumbers, and other maintenance staff during multidisciplinary tasks

Qualifications and Experience

  • Malawi School Certificate of Education (MSCE)
  • Trade Test Certificate in Carpentry and Joinery or TEVET Certificate in Carpentry or its equivalent.
  • Advanced carpentry or joinery certificates will be an added advantage
  • Minimum of two (2) years’ experience in carpentry works within a commercial, construction, or hospitality environment.
