Job description
It is the duty of the Security/Eco guards to ensure the safety of all visitors, volunteers and staff at the LWC. No individual is to enter the LWC illegally or to perform any illegal activities within the Centre. The Security/Eco guard has to always work according to LWC Security Operational Procedures (SOP) which are of vital importance to a smooth operation. Any questions regarding the SOP must be addressed immediately to the line manager or the General Manager. Any general issues need to be reported immediately to the line manager.

Duties and Responsibilities

General

To completely understand the SOP document and to always work according to the procedures and guidelines explained.

Making sure nobody enters the LWC illegally or illegitimately.
Making sure no illegal activities happen within the LWC with special focus on poaching and tree cutting.

Day shift duties:

Checkpoint:

Make sure every single visitor who wishes to enter the rehabilitation area or the wilderness area hands over the corresponding receipt at the checkpoint.
Check all receipts received for any mistakes
To keep written records of all tours taking place with corresponding number of visitors.
To keep the hand-over book up to date.
To keep the checkpoint area neat and tidy
To perform backwash procedure at the animal care water station
Performing patrols of the wilderness area outside of guest visiting hours
To assist LWC visitors with any issues they might have
To report any serious issues to the line manager
Control state of security LWC buildings and goods
Respond to incidents

Night duties

The following duties need to be covered by all guards on night shift using a rotation system where necessary.

The main gate needs to be manned constantly
While the café is open, minimum 1 guard needs to make sure no patrons wander away from the café premises into the wilderness/rehabilitation area.
Permanence at the volunteer house of one (1) guard at all times. The guard at the volunteer house needs to have a working panic button at all times and use it in case of emergency.
After the café closes, a minimum of two (2) guards need to patrol the entire wilderness area constantly. Ambushes can be part of this patrol only if specifically instructed by the line manager.
Immediately report any suspicious and/or illegal activity to the line manager and alert the rapid response team if necessary.
Report any signs of tree cutting or wildlife being endangered.
Report any damage made to any LWC property, structure or fencing.
Respond to any incident.
